Melamine
Melamine is a chemical compound with numerous industrial uses, including the production of – Plastics, Dishware, Kitchenware, Commercial filters, Adhesives and laminates, Moulding compounds, Coatings and Flame retardants.
Melamine in Laminates / Plywood
Melamine formaldehyde on laminate is a low-pressure strong surface coating that acts as an additional layer to a base material like laminate. The laminates are made of a hard resin and used as an overlay on materials like plywood. Melamine sheets are flexible in terms of functionality and design and are quite convenient to use in furniture, wardrobe and cabinet purpose in houses/offices.
Melamine benefits on Plywood
- Durable– Scratch. Shatter resistant & waterproof
- Inexpensive– Covers inexpensive substrates like MDF or plywood
- Choice– Can be produced in a wide variety of colours & finishes
- Water-resistant – Over the years through testing and experience we have found that Melamine is more water-resistant
- The principal use of melamine resin is as the main constituent of high-pressure laminates, such as Formica, Arborite and in laminate flooring. Melamine-resin tile wall panels can also be used as whiteboards and is also good for plastic laminates and overlay materials
How it is better than Urea Formaldehyde
- Formaldehyde is more tightly bound in melamine-formaldehyde than it is in urea-formaldehyde, reducing emissions
